This applies to all of Maggie’s poor, unfortunate souls as well. Please, writers of The Walking Dead, in order to get us to care when somebody dies you must spend time establishing who they are first. Maybe it wasn’t even Tony, maybe he said some other random bit character’s name like it means something. Instead, we get lots of filler and awkward moments like when Jerry recognizes one of the Hilltop zombies and is like “That’s Tony!” like we’re supposed to know who Tony is let alone care. It’s like, if you could pluck just the good bits from each episode you could sew them back together into a couple very good episodes. A lot can happen in an episode and it can still feel weirdly boring and slow. All of Maggie’s other people are dead and I don’t think any of the Alexandria crowd are out there still either except for Daryl and he’s, uh, preoccupied. Just Alden, poor guy, all by himself dying in a church. This prompts them all to wait for other survivors but if my count isn’t off (and it could be) I think everyone else is dead.
Negan gets “put in his place” when he’s about to ditch the place and take what meager supplies they have left back to Alexandria and just then Gabriel and Elijah show up. Negan continues to make the most sense and Maggie continues to be super unlikable and annoying and frankly this whole thing has gone on long enough without anything really happening. Maggie and Negan still squabbling as they make their way to a rendezvous point that I didn’t really understand was a thing until now.Why is Connie just wandering around by herself still? We’ll find out next week! Mercy (however late) is repaid in kind, with the Whisperer telling them that he and his companions saw Connie near a cave not long ago. Aaron goes full torture-mode with one of them and there’s a scuffle and ultimately Aaron has to cut the guy’s hand off after he has a walker bite it as part of the interrogation. Yes, the Whisperers are still around though in much smaller numbers. Aaron, Carol, Lydia and Jerry heading to Hilltop to find blacksmithing tools and possibly some game to hunt and stumbling across a group of Whisperers.This is followed by some very boring dialogue between Judith and Rosita, two characters who I genuinely believe deserve better.
The teens in this show are almost universally awful, which is fairly realistic if we’re being honest.
